What this is

Plain Estimate is software for writing estimates and invoices. It runs in your browser and stores your work on your own device. Using it means agreeing to what is on this page.

The figures are yours to check

The app adds up what you type and applies the tax rates you set. It does not know your jurisdiction's rules, and it is not accounting or tax advice. Check a document before you send it to a customer: you are responsible for what goes out under your business name.

Your data, and your backups

Your documents live in your browser. Clearing your browser's site data erases them, and nobody can recover them for you unless you were signed in or had exported a backup. The app can export an encrypted backup at any time and will remind you to; taking one is your responsibility, not ours.

An encrypted backup can only be opened with the passphrase you chose. There is no reset and no master key. If it is lost the file cannot be read by anyone, including us.

Accounts and sync

An account is optional and exists so your work can appear on more than one device. Sign-in is through Google, so there is no password here to lose. An account has limits on how much it will sync — currently 2,000 documents and 25 MB — and reaching one stops syncing rather than stopping you working: everything stays on your device either way.

Approval links

Publishing a document puts a copy of it on our servers so the person you send the link to can read and sign it. You decide what to publish and for how long, and you can revoke a link at any time. A document that has been signed is kept as the record of that agreement.

Fair use

Please do not use the service to send anything unlawful or deceptive, to publish material you have no right to, or to attack, overload or probe the service. Automated abuse is rate limited, and an account being used for any of the above can be closed.

Availability

The app is offered as it is, with no promise that the hosted parts are always reachable. Because it is local-first, an outage on our side stops publishing and syncing but does not stop you writing, issuing or printing a document.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost profit, lost data, or business losses arising from use of the service. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

These terms may change as the product does. The date at the top says when they last did.
